Manipulatives help students convert abstract ideas into concrete models. Virtual manipulatives help solve many barriers like having adequate numbers of manipulatives and time involved with distribution and collecting them.
An extensive list of Elementary, Middle and High school math manipulatives.
The Manipulative sets fall into one of 3 different categories, pure manipulatives, targeted manipulatives, and interactive math activities.
Pure Manipulatives are those that are truly open in nature. They can be used in a multitude of ways to learn math at the conceptual level and beyond.
Targeted Manipulatives have a standard or two as their focus. They will have questions and provide feedback to students. They can still function separately from the questions, but are meant to complete one purpose.
Interactive Math is centered on questions with some interactive feature, usually just "Click on the..." type of activity.
Preparation time is required for most online manipulatives. Ease of use - Teacher: Easy - Intermediate Ease of use - Student: Easy - Intermediate
No account required for most of the manipulatives.
